Photography

I have had an interest in Photography to some degree for quite some time. While for the most part I believe that just about everyone likes to pick up a camera and snap a photo or two. I think their are few who actually do so with much thought.

This is to a large degree driven by the absolutely huge range of so named point and shoot cameras. Camera’s that really make it easy enough for literally anyone to be able to take a good photo. Although these camera’s do have some limitations, and while they can do a lot, they do have their limitations, when you want to get overly creative.

For years I owned two different point and shoot camera’s while they served their purpose, I never found them to give me that wish to get the camera and specifically go out looking for something to photograph. I wanted something more, I wanted to be able to think about my camera and to get inspired to go out and start taking some photographs. Not just Photographs, but photographs that captured the moment, in just the way I was looking for.

I finally made what is the first step into the world of Digital SLR photography in November last year. I purchased a Canon 450D Twin Lens Kit. It included the Canon 450D body, and two lenses, a 18-55mm and 55-250mm. I was hooked pretty much straight away.

While it is just over 6 months since I purchased my new digital SLR, I have used it more then all the other camera’s I have owned both Film and Digital. In this time I have taken over 5,500 photo’s. While they are all far from being the greatest photo’s in the world, this experience with my photography is an on going learning experience. Every Photo I take helps me to build on my skills, and helps me move towards putting my skills to use in ever more creative ways.

As part of my photographic journey I will be looking to share not all but some of my photography here on this site. You can already see some as part of my 8 day trip to Melbourne earlier this year (links in the menu to the right). More will follow, for the most part it will be my experimentation, learning and interests. There is no learning without constructive criticism, so please feel free to comment.
